On Tuesday morning, two run-down houses collapsed near the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, resulting in one death and eight people being rescued. The incident occurred in the Khoya Gali Chowk area.
Nine people, including a female police constable, were initially trapped under the debris. After a rescue operation by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the constable and the other trapped individuals were successfully freed.
The injured individuals have been taken to a nearby hospital. The constable is also receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition, according to the police.
According to Varanasi police, "The rescue operation is nearing completion. All nine family members who were trapped have been rescued and taken to the hospital. A woman constable on duty was injured and has been sent to the BHU Trauma Centre, where she is reported to be out of danger. Additionally, a woman admitted to Kabir Chaura Hospital has been declared deceased."
The Varanasi Divisional Commissioner stated that once the rescue operations are completed, the next priorities will be to clear the debris and restore water and electricity supplies to the affected homes.
